Mobile Home Burns To The Ground In Meriwether County

Maegan McCart-Sophomore-April 7, 2017

What was initially reported as a brush fire claimed an old mobile home located on Spring Grove Road on Sunday, March 18, 2017 later on that afternoon. Spring Grove Road is a one way dirt road, and is located in Meriwether County near Pine Mountain. The firefighters from Meriwether County, specifically from Durand and Warm Springs, were initially called to the scene shortly before 4 p.m.

Unofficial reports indicate that Meriwether firefighters were informed the situation involved a brush fire. Firefighters from Harris County, Hopewell, and Pine Mountain, with water support, were summoned to the scene. When the brush fire had spread to an old mobile home, additional firefighters were requested on the scene.

The fire was located at the end of the narrow, crowded road, causing difficulties for the firefighters trying to approach the scene. By the time the firemen had arrived, the mobile home was engulfed in flames.  To prevent the fire from spreading into near by woods, the Georgia Forestry Commission quickly responded to the scene. Together, the firemen, forestry commission, and other requested helpers quickly brought the fire under control. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported in connection to the mobile home.
