In the twentieth century, scientist began telling stories of catastrophe. scientist have hypothesized that temperatures will gradually begin to change in the future. Climate changes so slowly that we as a society are unaware that it’s changing over time. During most of the geological record, the Earth had been covered by warmth. Climate expert, C.E.P Brooks, suggested that a slight change in conditions might set off a self sustaining shift between climate states. Some of these reasons are due to the layers of silt and clay that are pulled up from the ocean floor. Swifter changes could appear in the varves within the clay, derived in the layers of mud in lake beds laid down each year by a spring runoff. The ice cores drawn from Greenland, Antarctica, and tropical mountain glaciers show that the Earth’s climate responds to changes in greenhouse gas levels. The earth has been warming since the 1880’s. The most warming occurred in the past 35 years. In 2015, the global average temperature was one degree celsius or more above the 1880’s-1889 average. Oceans have began absorbing the heat that the sun gives. The warming of the oceans are starting to affect the animals that live in oceans. For example, polar bears need the ice to survive, however, with the temperature gradually changing over time, it is even harder for them to survive.
